Perebor is a unique decorative element of the weaving tradition of the Bug River area. It is a hand-made on linen fabric. Perebor is created by manual selection with a board on a warp interwoven with a colored thread, thus creating a unique pattern. It is woven on traditional wooden looms. Perebor is not only a deeply rooted element of the culture of Podlasie and Southern Polesie. Used in traditional Bug River and Włodawa costumes, it gives them a unique charm and helps maintain their traditional character. In addition to costumes, perebors also decorate ceremonial towels used in Orthodox and Uniate churches. Currently, it is increasingly used in contemporary costumes. The extraordinary value of perebor has been appreciated at the national level. In 2016, thanks to the efforts of the founders of the Bug River Folk University and the heritage of the weavers, the art of weaving perebor was entered on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Poland in accordance with the UNESCO convention. This action helped to educate about the importance of cultural heritage and support the development of local folk artists.
