The work belongs to the sculptural mirror series fragment. While its form references fragment 2.2 (2024), it introduces a distinctly different material and emotional expression. For the first time in her practice, the artist employs egg tempera – a traditional painting technique in which pigments are bound with egg yolk diluted with water.
Although the sculptural form had existed in the studio for some time, it was an encounter with the paintings of Maria Anto that became the decisive impulse for completing this piece. A key point of reference is Anto’s painting Good, Quiet Evening (1965). Reflecting on this encounter, the artist recalls being captivated by the way color is applied and by the airy, luminous quality of Anto’s paintings, in which light appears almost tangible, permeating the space around the painting and shining through between the rhythmic brushstrokes.
fragment 1965 was carved from delicate alder wood using a fine chisel and long, flowing movements. This process gives the surface a soft, pulsating quality, gradually establishing its identity. The final expression of the work emerges through the application of multiple thin layers of transparent egg tempera in shades of ochre and umber, lending the object both depth and subtle luminosity.
